Activities for April 6 - April 10
Monday: I love finding music all around me. I hear it in the cars passing by, in people talking, the way my feet sound as they hit the floor. I hear it in the sounds of birds and the sound of rain falling. But did you know that you can find music in your kitchen?! Watch this video called Veggie Rhythms and then see if you can find some other kitchen objects or foods to make your own music with!

Monday:
Tuesday:
- Listen to HIghway Number One again today, sing along, and do the movements.
- Now that you know the song really well, let's pick some new places using this madlib!
Wednesday: Tempo is the words we use in music to talk about speed. Today let's start exploring the different speeds of music by feeling how the pulse, or beat, changes with the tempo of the music.
- Sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and tap a steady beat on your legs. Now, sing it again but this time speed up the tempo and tap the steady beat on your legs. Did you feel that the taps were faster? Good! This time, slow it WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY down and tap S L O W L Y on your legs.
- Choose another of your favorite songs and practice signing and tapping it at its original tempo, then speed it up, and then slow it down. If you don't know what song to use you can use this song called "Down By the Bay."
- Then, watch and follow along with this song called "A Ram Sam Sam." What did you notice about the tempo? Can you try the motions and try singing along?
Thursday:
- Practice singing and doing the motions for A Ram Sam Sam until you think it's pretty easy...even when the tempo speeds up.
- Then pick your own THREE motions to do while singing A Ram Sam Sam. You need to pick a motion for the words "A ram sam sam," "gooly gooly gooly," and "aravi, aravi." Make up your own motions or pick from the ones below. The more creative, the better!
- Practice your new motions with the song and sing along. Then, teach someone else at home or perform it for them!
Pat | Tap | Clap | Snap |

Friday: Since we have been talking about tempo, which is the music word for "speed", and putting movements to music, today let's listen to a few famous pieces from The Carnival of the Animals and I want you to move like the animals the music is about making sure to match the tempo of your movements to the tempo of the music.
- First, listen to The Swan. Can you move slowly and gracefully?
- Next, let's do a very different kind of animal. Hmmm.....maybe a kangaroo? Maybe Mario dressed up in a kangaroo suit? Can you move with the hopping sounds?
- Phew, let's slow it down a little bit with a big ol' elephant or two. Can you make your movements slow and heavy?
- Now for something light and airy...let's do The Aviary, which is a place that birds live.
- Oh, this one is one of my favorites! See if you can move like a lion, proud and strong.
- Last one! I saved this mysterious sounding piece of music for last. It's called The Aquarium, which is of course where you might go to see fish and sea life of all sorts or maybe you have one in your house for your pet fish or turtle.
